Christie Langeveldt better known as Boetman, has been on Bloemendal Estate for seventeen years. He was born in Malmesbury and came to Bloemendal as a young man straight after school. The previous owner of Bloemendal Estate, Jackie Coetzee, saw great potential in Boetman and roped him in to work in the cellar. At first Boetman was an assistant and helped with general labour in the cellar, but slowly got more involved with the winemaking process. In 2006 he became a full time winemaking assistant and calls that his first real harvest.
Boetman learnt alot about the winemaking process from Jackie Coetzee and couldn't help but fall in love with Sauvignon Blanc. It is his favourite and most challenging cultivar to work with and he feels that Durbanville is ideal for producing world class white wines.
According to Boetman the 2005 vintage has been a standout when Bloemendal Estate received the honors for the best Sauvignon Blanc in the Durbanville Valley. He is very passionate about wine and keen to learn more and further his knowledge. In 2013 Francois Haasbroek started as consultant and took Boetman under his wing showing him new and innovative techniques to work with the Estates selected vineyards.
Boetman is a very down to earth and quiet person who enjoys spending time with his family. He has three kids, and enjoys watching soccer in his spare time. Many winemakers have an interest of some kind outside of wine and for him it is brewing beer - something he wishes to learn more of in the near future. We are very proud and fortunate to have him in our winemaking team and look forward to many more standout vintages at Bloemendal Estate.
